Origin

Established by prefectural notice No. 138 of May 3, 1957. The katakana シ (shi) and ガ (ga) — spelling Shiga — are combined into a circular design expressing harmony; the inner circle represents Lake Biwa, and the wing-like forms the prefecture's leap forward.
