Origin

The hiragana とさ (Tosa, the old provincial name of the Kochi region) is stylized into the emblem, and the white area inside represents the katakana コ (ko) of Kochi. The vertical point expresses aspiration, and the circle stands for peace and cooperation. It was adopted on April 15, 1953, based on a publicly solicited design.
