Fukui 福井県

Origin

Established on March 28, 1952. The katakana フ (fu), ク (ku), and イ (i) — spelling Fukui — are combined into a circular design. Among several interpretations, the prefecture's official explanation is that it resembles a young leaf emerging between two seed leaves, carrying a wish for the prefecture's growth. When used alone the emblem is specified as indigo or black, believed to be the oldest such color specification for a prefectural emblem.
