Origin
An archaic form of the kanji 群 (gun), the first character of Gunma, sits at the center, surrounded by the three famous mountains of Jomo — Mt. Akagi, Mt. Haruna, and Mt. Myogi. The design was created from entries submitted by residents when the prefectural office building was constructed, and was officially announced on October 1, 1926.
