Emblem of Saitama

Origin

Both the emblem and flag were established by prefectural notice No. 652 of September 1, 1964. Sixteen magatama — comma-shaped beads symbolizing the sakimitama ('spirit of good fortune') from which the name Saitama derives — are arranged in a circle, expressing the sun, development, passion, and strength. The emblem once appeared on the right sleeve of the Saitama Seibu Lions' away uniform.
