Origin

Based on publicly solicited designs and established by prefectural notice No. 342 of May 10, 1966. The hiragana ふ (fu) and く (ku) — the first syllables of Fukuoka — are shaped into a plum blossom, the prefectural flower, expressing peace, the development of the prefecture, and the harmony and advance of its people.
