Osaka 大阪府
Origin
Adopted on June 21, 1968, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Osaka prefectural administration. The Latin letter "O" is designed after the sennari-byōtan (thousand-gourd cluster), known as the battle standard of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and the three branching "O" shapes represent hope, prosperity, and harmony. The letter O is also the first letter of "Osaka" in its romanized spelling.
